Eindhoven Airport has to be completely closed for five months for a major renovation. The Ministry of Defence wants to completely renovate the runway of Eindhoven Air Base. The renovation work will take approximately 22 weeks, from February to June. During that time, it will not be possible to fly from Eindhoven Airport, so travellers will have to divert to other airports. But in which year the job will take place is still unknown. Previous plans for the renovation were about 2025, reports the Eindhovens Dagblad on Wednesday. According to the newspaper, the Ministry of Defence’s plan is evident from a market consultation by the Central Government Real Estate Agency, for which interested contractors can register until the end of this month. It is still unclear when the job will start. Eindhoven Airport and the airbase do not want to give any explanation at this time, the newspaper writes. However, in view of the usual lengthy procedures for preparation and the tendering process, it must be expected to take several years. The refurbishment will also include an upgrade of the ILS (Instrument Landing System) system so that aircraft can also land and take off in very dense fog. (Photo Eindhoven Airport).
