Danish shipping company DFDS has completed the acquisition of FRS Iberia/Maroc, strengthening its position in the fast-growing ferry market in the Strait of Gibraltar, a crucial link between Spain and Morocco. FRS Iberia/Maroc, known for its prominent role in the market for the short-haul ferries in this region, reported a turnover of approx. 135 million euros in 2023. The acquisition expands DFDS’ network to a region where growth in the coming years is expected to be supported by nearshoring supply chains closer to Europe. “We are excited to begin the integration of FRS Iberia/Maroc and look forward to leveraging our joint capabilities to grow the business, as we continue to provide reliable, efficient ferry services to both passenger and freight customers,” said Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS. FRS Iberia/Maroc serves three routes with a team of 850 employees, including just over 400 of its own employees. It is the only company that operates on all lines of the Strait of Gibraltar.
