The persistent bad weather in the Netherlands is causing TUI a lot of last-minute bookings. European holiday destinations in particular have received a significant boost in the past week. Bookings with short-term departures increased by 87 percent compared to the same period last year, the travel company reported on Thursday. The beautiful summer weather can currently be found in the destinations around the Mediterranean Sea. In the Netherlands, little sun is also predicted for the rest of the month, says TUI. Departures in June are favourably priced. It is mainly couples, families with young children and groups of friends who leave for the sun in June. The start of the European Football Championship on June 14 appears to be no reason for many to stay here in the rain, many hotels provide large screens on which the matches can be followed. Bookings for the upcoming summer months also increased by 20 percent in recent weeks compared to the same period last year. This 20 percent concerns all global destinations and modes of transport. Favourites are the destinations Turkey, Spain and Greece, but Egypt and Curaçao are also popular. “The certainty of hot summer weather in these destinations in July and August is a reason for many people to go, with the knowledge that the pool and sea will provide cooling when needed,” says TUI. ‘This is also a major last-minute demand in neighbouring European countries, which are also struggling with bad weather.’ As an international travel group, TUI is also seeing increased demand from Germany, Belgium, Great Britain and the Scandinavian countries. The occupancy rate in the hotels is rising rapidly and a number of destinations are getting fully booked. (Photo Shutterstock).
