With the suspension of Schiphol’s shrinkage plans (the experimental scheme, ed.), local residents are getting the short end of the stick, and that disappoints Schiphol. This is what the airport says in a response to the government’s decision to suspend the shrinkage plan after fierce opposition from the United States. ‘Reducing the number of flights is not an end in itself for us, but at last there was clarity and certainty for local residents,’ says Schiphol. ‘According to Schiphol, reverting to ‘anticipatory enforcement’ leads to more uncertainty, also for the aviation sector itself. It really is high time that local residents were noticeably less inconvenienced. The need for a night closure of Schiphol is becoming even greater. This also applies to the other measures in our 8-point plan, such as the ban on private flights and the banning of the noisiest aircraft.’ (Photo Shutterstock).
