According to TV presenter Rutger Castricum, holidays are almost impossible to afford.
He even calls the May holidays ‘outrageously expensive’.
“They are scammers,” he declared Sunday evening in the program De Oranjezondag on SBS6.
In the program, TUI spokesperson Petra Kok explained the popularity of the May holiday.
The May holidays are not the new summer holidays, as presenter Hélène Hendriks suggested, but more and more people are looking for the sun during the May holidays to bridge the gap to the summer, according to Kok.
In response to Hendriks’ follow-up question to Kok whether the May holidays are not more affordable than the summer holidays, sidekick Castricum interrupted.
“No, it’s really outrageously expensive, even at TUI, including scammers,” said Castricum, who is known for making provocation his trademark.
Kok suggested that Castricum should look better and suggested that he should not travel to Ibiza, but to Mallorca, which is much cheaper.
‘That makes a big difference.’ Castricum vehemently denied this: ‘Really not true.’ Castricum, who acts as Hélène Hendriks’ sidekick in De Oranjezomer, stated that he looked at where it is nice and warm for the May holidays and ended up with Germany.
‘I’ll drive there by car, because I think flying is bad for the climate’, he declared, smiling broadly and in a slightly sarcastic tone.
When asked by Hendriks whether he suffers from flight shame, Castricum finally answered: ‘Absolutely not.’
