The ANVR will continue to oppose the impending ban on fossil advertisements and therefore also on air holidays. ‘That’s patronising and it’s symbolic politics’, said ANVR director Frank Oostdam at the New Year’s reception on Monday evening. ‘But of course we have an eye for social developments and we also see a role for us as a travel sector in increasing the awareness of our customers, so that they make a conscious choice. That is why we are working with a number of experts from our constituency in collaboration with the Advertising Code Committee to draw up a disclaimer to be used for these types of advertisements.’ The ANVR, which gained 15 new members last year, has quite a to-do list for next year. For example, the ANVR is going to join ‘digital security together’, an initiative of employers’ organization VNO-NCW and MKB Nederland, which will also make its supporters more resilient against cybercrime. In addition, the ANVR will inform consumers even better about the small print, the ANVR Travel Conditions. Oostdam: ‘When travel agencies and travel advisors mediate for non-ANVR travel companies, such as foreign travel companies, our travel conditions do not apply. This regularly causes confusion among consumers. That is why we are going to make this even more important to the consumer.’ Finally, the ANVR will certify the ZRA service organizations (ZSOs) so that the ZRAs also know what they can count on. Oostdam concluded with a remark about Oman, the conference destination for this year. ́Oman is a beautiful destination that goes very well with the pursuit of sustainability. ́ (Photo Shutterstock).
