
The Labour Inspectorate has imposed a fine of 46,000 euros on Transavia for deploying sixty trainees as full-fledged employees. These trainees are also entitled to wages and allowances with retroactive effect. This will cost Transavia a total of 623,000 euros. The inspectorate started an investigation last year, which focused on students who did internships at the airline between February 2022 and June 2022. They were given the same tasks and responsibilities as a steward or flight attendant and had the same work schedule. According to the inspectorate, there was an employment relationship and the students were underpaid, reports the NOS. According to the labour inspectorate, ‘the learning aspect must be central’ during the internships. According to the Labour Inspectorate, employers are not allowed to use trainees as full-fledged employees. Transavia already expected to be fined. A spokesperson says to the NOS that this has already been met. ‘We have taken note of the report and will look into it.’
