The announced renovation of Eindhoven Airport’s runway, which caused a stir at the beginning of this year, will take place from February 2027. This is reported by various media, including Omroep Brabant. The work will take approximately five months. During that time, the airport must close. In mid-February this year, it was announced that Eindhoven Airport, owned by the Ministry of Defence, would have to be closed for five months for the work. A deadline was not mentioned. Arjan Kers, CEO of TUI Belgium and the Netherlands, called this ‘a surprise for the entire sector’. He was supported by ANVR director Frank Oostdam. The airport then announced that the work would not take place before 2027. Stakeholders were recently informed of the plans, reports Omroep Brabant. They will soon be talking to the management of the airport. TUI, which makes extensive use of Eindhoven Airport, does not yet know how to deal with the closure. ‘In the discussion with the management, we hope to hear how we can solve this in good consultation.’ The ANVR assumes that thousands of flights will be rescheduled. That would mean that many travelers would have to divert to other airports. According to Transavia, which accounts for a third of the more than 40,000 flights at Eindhoven Airport every year, five months is a long time. ‘So there’s a lot of work to be done.’ (Photo Eindhoven Airport).
