Since 14 February, holidaymakers visiting Bali have had to pay tourist tax on arrival. The popular Indonesian island charges a levy of 150,000 Indonesian rupiah per person, which amounts to about 9 euros. Children are not exempt from this scheme. The authorities of the island advise to make the payment prior to the trip through the official online portal or an app. To pay the tourist tax before departure, visitors can visit the Love Bali website or download the Love Bali app. It is available on both the Play Store and the App Store. Personal details such as name, e-mail address and passport number must be provided there. In the next step, travellers choose their preferred payment method and receive a confirmation email with a QR code. This can be scanned at checkpoints upon arrival. The tourist tax is invested in the protection of the environment and culture. Just like before the pandemic, the island is once again struggling with mass tourism after its reopening. The aim is to ensure the preservation of cultural heritage and nature by levying a tourist tax. The proceeds are intended, for example, for measures to protect nature. (Photo Shutterstock).
