A majority of the House of Representatives wants Lelystad Airport to no longer open for commercial flights. A proposal by the Party for the Animals was supported in the House of Representatives by GroenLinks-PvdA, NSC, SP, D66, BBB, CDA, ChristenUnie and Volt. Only VVD and PVV are in favor of opening Lelystad Airport. The main arguments of the parliamentary majority against the commissioning of Lelystad include the climate, public health and the scarce nitrogen space. At the end of last year, the outgoing cabinet announced that it would leave a final decision about Lelystad Airport to a new cabinet. The travel sector is disappointed. ANVR director Frank Oostdam ANVR thinks the decision of the House of Representatives is ‘unwise’. According to him, this does not benefit the traveller. According to Schiphol, the opening of Lelystad Airport had offered the opportunity to move night flights from Schiphol to daytime flights at Lelystad. (Photo Shutterstock).
