During the Christmas holiday period, which runs from 22 December to 7 January, Schiphol expects around 3 million passengers. That is 30 percent more than in last year’s Christmas period. On busy days, more than 60,000 passengers depart from the airport. The most popular destinations this holiday are London, Istanbul, Barcelona, Dubai and Milan. Schiphol reports this in response to the news that one million people have reserved a time slot for the security check since March. This allows travelers to pass through security checks carefree and quickly, the airport says. By using a reserved time slot, travelers can go through the security check at a time of their choosing. As a result, they know exactly what time they have to be at the check-up and they don’t have to wait. Time slots can be reserved three days before departure via the Schiphol website or app. The last time slot a passenger can book for a non-Schengen destination is 90 minutes before departure. For Schengen destinations, this is 60 minutes. The most popular time slot is 90-105 minutes before departure. Most time slots within the Schengen zone are booked by travellers flying to Barcelona, Malaga and Lisbon. The preferred non-Schengen destinations of timed passengers are Curaçao, London Heathrow, and Dubai. (Photo Shutterstock).
