
In the third quarter of 2023, nearly 21 million passengers travelled to and from one of the five Dutch airports of national importance. This is more than 11 percent more than in the same quarter of 2022, when 19 million passengers were counted. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS). The number of passengers in the third quarter of this year is still lower than in the pre-corona year of 2019. In the third quarter of 2019, there were still 23 million passengers flying to and from the Netherlands. Most air passengers are transported in the third quarter. Only corona year 2020 was an exception to this. This quarter includes the school holidays and the construction holidays. On average, August is the month of the year with the most air passengers. This year, the busiest days of the year, through the third quarter, were Sunday, July 30 and Monday, August 7; At that time, a total of more than 246,000 passengers a day passed through the terminals of the five largest airports. The quietest day in the third quarter was Wednesday, July 5. On this day, 165,000 passengers flew through Dutch airports. More than 86 percent of all flights (passengers, mail, freight) went via Schiphol. Most passengers (nearly 86 percent of all air passengers to and from the Netherlands) also travelled via Schiphol. In the third quarter of this year, Schiphol had 17.8 million passengers. This is almost 14 percent more than in the same quarter of 2022.
