Asturias, the region in northwestern Spain that will host the ANVR Congress in November, has much to offer on the culinary front. The ANVR has added a long list of fine culinary hotspots on the conference website, especially for attendees looking for a suitable restaurant for Friday night (Nov. 17). Using the list of restaurants, conference attendees can now get their bearings and see where their culinary preferences lie. The list is accompanied by a warning. It is wise not to wait too long to make a reservation (by phone), possibly with guests, because it is not only the participants of the ANVR congress who will be looking for a suitable restaurant on the Friday evening. In fact, several congresses are taking place in Oviedo on the same weekend. It has been said before; in terms of conviviality, Oviedo has much to offer. The narrow streets in the city’s historic center have a lively and vibrant atmosphere. The squares and car-free zones make the center a perfect place to stroll and soak up the local atmosphere. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and cider houses where visitors can try local dishes, with or without a glass of traditional Asturian cider. Many people start the evening here with tapas, featuring typical Spanish dishes. The menu includes chorizo, the well-known spicy Spanish sausage, but also fabada, the typical bean dish from the north of Spain. A variety of cheeses complete the appetizer. The main course often consists of fish or meat, again served with matching beans and potatoes. A good meal naturally goes with a local red wine (vino tinto). Another must is the local cider. To finish, a chupito, a drink from the region, is often drunk. The restaurant suggestions can be found on the ANVR conference website. Where and what? The ANVR Congress in Asturias will take place from 16 to 19 November. The conference flight will be provided by Transavia. More details can be found at anvrcongres2023.nl.(Photo: Shutterstock).
