Tourists traveling to Zanzibar will have to pay a mandatory insurance fee of 44 US dollars from October 1, 2024.
\nThis fee covers the duration of their stay on the island for up to 92 days.
\nThe insurance covers various aspects that are often problematic for visitors, such as health care, loss of luggage, accidents, emergency evacuations, loss of passports, and even the repatriation of remains in case of death,” said Finance Minister Saada Mkuya Salum.
\nThe coverage is provided by the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation, a state-owned company.
\nThis insurance is mandatory, regardless of whether the traveler has already taken out another travel insurance from the home country.
\nFailure to comply may result in refusal of entry at immigration control.
\nUntil now, travel insurance was not mandatory in Tanzania and other East African countries.
