{"id":115219,"date":"2024-09-06T21:44:04","date_gmt":"2024-09-06T20:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.travmagazine.nl\/possibly-holiday-flights-from-lelystad-airport-after-all\/"},"modified":"2024-09-06T21:49:09","modified_gmt":"2024-09-06T20:49:09","slug":"possibly-holiday-flights-from-lelystad-airport-after-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.travmagazine.nl\/en\/possibly-holiday-flights-from-lelystad-airport-after-all\/","title":{"rendered":"Possibly holiday flights from Lelystad Airport after all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The government is considering making a final decision next year about the opening of Lelystad Airport for holiday flights.<br \/>\nDespite earlier opposition in the House of Representatives, Minister Barry Madlener (Infrastructure) sees room to make the airport operational in 2025.<br \/>\nDe Telefgraaf writes this on the basis of what insiders in The Hague let the newspaper know.<br \/>\nLelystad Airport, originally intended to relieve Schiphol, is largely ready for use, with an extended runway and a new terminal.<br \/>\nAt the end of August, the municipality of Lelystad sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lelystad.nl\/Documenten\/20240829Brief%20aan%20minister%20over%20openstelling%20Lelystad%20Airport%20voor%20groothandelsverkeer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the minister a letter<\/strong><\/a> about the opening of Lelystad Airport.<br \/>\nThe province of Flevoland and the municipality of Lelystad have been pushing for the opening of the airport for years because of the expected economic benefits and employment.<br \/>\nAt the same time, there are concerns about noise nuisance for local residents and permit procedures are still underway that need to be completed.<br \/>\nWithin the coalition, there are divisions on the issue.<br \/>\nPVV and VVD support the opening, while NSC and BBB are undecided.<br \/>\nThe upcoming government programme states that a final decision on the future of the airport will be made in 2025.<br \/>\nIf the plans go ahead, Lelystad could take over part of Schiphol&#8217;s air traffic, but the economic interests are still being weighed against the objections of local residents.
