After a period in which the growth in the number of bookings slowed down, May is bringing a rebound. Bookings showed an 11 percent growth in May compared to the same month last year. The drizzly and wet weather will undoubtedly have played a major role, says the ANVR in an explanation of the new figures from the GfK\/ANVR monitor. In total, 6 percent more bookings were made in the first five months this year than in the same period last year. There are few deviations by destination. In Europe, only Denmark recorded 20 percent fewer bookings. Outside Europe, Africa was deviant with a minus of 23 percent. Almost all destinations in Africa recorded fewer bookings, with Egypt as a positive exception; it is now (again) the African country with the most bookings. There was also growth in Asia among the two frontrunners: Thailand and Indonesia. In Europe, all top 10 destinations recorded growth, but the largest growth is in the sun destinations Turkey, Greece, Italy (all +23 percent) and leader Portugal (+39 percent).
