An important milestone has been achieved during the renovation of TUI’s office building on the Schottegatweg in Cura\u00e7ao. The highest point was reached and that was traditionally celebrated with beer for the construction workers. Minister Charles Cooper (Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning) was present and took a look at the construction work. The building will be extended with an extra floor. The work for this started in November last year and is expected to take a year. On this new second floor, additional workplaces and a multifunctional training room will be realized. ‘TUI Cura\u00e7ao currently employs around 155 people. This makes us a major employer on the island,’ says <\/em>Antoin Klein Hofmeijer, who recently moved to Cura\u00e7ao to become Head of TUI Dutch Caribbean. ‘We think it is important to be able to offer all these and new colleagues a pleasant and sustainable working environment. Now and in the future. The construction of this extra floor offers us that possibility. I am honoured that Minister Cooper was here to celebrate with us the achievement of the highest point. And for me, as the new Head of TUI Dutch Caribbean, it was a great opportunity to get to know him personally.’ <\/em>The construction is being carried out by Real Estate Developer DREM of the Van Alstede family, who also built the office building in 2021. Just like then, a lot of attention was paid to sustainability in the realization of the extra floor, such as the use of sustainable materials, 168 solar panels on the roof and excellent insulation of the building. Charging stations ABC islands In the context of its sustainability ambitions, TUI also discussed with Minister Cooper the charging station project that TUI started at the end of 2022 in collaboration with Dynaf. With this project, a network of a total of 55 charging stations for electric vehicles will be installed on the ABC islands. Of these TUI poles, 30 will be placed on Cura\u00e7ao, of which 10 have already been installed. TUI says it is important that these charging stations can be used by tourists and locals. Locations that are accessible to everyone, such as in Punda, near Westpunt and Boca Sami, are therefore also explicitly considered. Minister Cooper was asked to pay specific attention to these public places, as approval from the government is required to be able to place poles there.
