Expedia is cutting 1,500 jobs worldwide. That corresponds to about nine percent of all employees. The booking platform announced this in a press release. CEO Peter Kern had already cut thousands of jobs during the corona period. The publicly traded company, based in Seattle, says it has 17,100 employees in more than 50 countries. Kern, who has been at the helm since the year 2000, presented the results of the past financial year at the beginning of February and also announced the change at the top. Kern returns to the Board of Directors as Vice Chairman. Ariane Gorin will succeed him on 13 May. Until now, she was responsible for Expedia for Business. Expedia recorded a turnover of 12.8 billion dollars (1.8 billion euro) last year, an increase of almost 10 percent compared to the previous year.
