The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) has imposed a so-called order for incremental penalty payments on Transavia. According to the regulator, Transavia has landed several times after midnight at Rotterdam The Hague Airport without a valid reason. In the event of a subsequent violation established by the ILT, Transavia will have to pay a penalty of between 50,000 and 250,000 euros. The amount of this amount is related to the costs that an airline saves in the event of such a landing. The order for incremental penalty payments is imposed to prevent a recurrence in the future, says ILT. In May, June and August 2023, some Transavia aircraft landed at Rotterdam Airport after midnight without a valid reason. These violations are the reason that the ILT is now imposing a penalty, says the regulator. In order to limit noise nuisance for local residents as much as possible, the use of the airport by large commercial aviation is not permitted between 23:00 and 07:00. Exceptions to this are landings after midnight due to a technical failure, extreme weather conditions or an unexpected delay caused by air traffic control. A spokesperson for Transavia told the NOS that the airline is aware of the ILT’s decision. “The inspectorate says that the applicable exceptions did not apply to the flights.
